Healthy meals cooked fresh in house

With three years in hospitality and 11 years experience coordinating meals at a Good Start childcare centre, Ally Burfield is a very popular and valuable member of our team. Every day she sends amazing smells through the centre and the staff and children wait (im)patiently to sample her next creation. 

 

With fresh quality ingredients, including from our own soon-to-be-completed garden and chicken coop, Ally takes great care and love in preparing meals that are not only healthy but also popular for children and their often fussy taste buds. She also has that perfect mother's touch of asking children to try new things and also offering alternatives and rewards, including for children with special food requirements. 

 

Only yesterday the owners were visiting the centre and witnessed her and Kate give a kindergarten child high fives after he ate some Shepherd's Pie. Previously he would only eat sandwiches. But after eating a good portion of pie, a first, he still asked for a sandwich and Ally whipped him up a Vegemite sandwich as a reward for his efforts. 

 

At Highfields Gardens Childcare we believe happy and active kids require nutritious, healthy fresh cooked meals to fuel learning development and outdoor activity. As per the national quality framework for early education and care, eating habits are developed from a young age, which is why we take nutrition seriously. We also believe it should also be fun and educational!

Chicken and Broccoli Pasta Bake Recipe
Ingredients:

 

  • 2 Chicken Breast

  • Head of Broccoli

  • 1L Milk

  • 2 Tbs All purpose flour

  • 40g Butter

  • 1 Tsp Garlic

  • 1 Onion

  • 1 Stalk of Celery

  • 1 Pkt Macaroni Cheese to Sprinkle over the top

Method:

  • Cook pasta as per packet instructions and drain water.

  • While pasta is cooking fry off chicken, onion and celery and at the last minute add the crushed garlic. 

  • To make the white sauce you need to melt butter in saucepan add flour

  • Cook for about a minute then add milk gradually, continue stirring until sauce thickens.

  • Partially cook broccoli. Mix everything together then place in an oven proof dish.

  • Sprinkle with cheese and bake until brown.
